Windows – Critical Security Issue

A critical vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Windows (all versions). A patch was released yesterday. Please check your computer to make sure that this patch has been installed on your computer.

Automatic Updates will protect your computer IF you have your computer configured to automatically install the updates. However, people often turn that feature off.

You can check whether it is installed by going into the Control Panel of your computer and looking at the list of installed software. You will need to make sure there is a check in the box beside ‘Show Updates’ in order to see the needed information.

In Add/Remove Programs, look for KB958644 installed on or after 10/23/2008. If it is listed, your computer is protected. If not, you need to install the update.

To automatically download and install updates, go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Accept all prompts and select Express install
